HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR COACHING ROLE

Emilio Sanchez entrevista a Oscar Burrieza

“You are one of those coaches that I admire, the ones that do the dirty work, the complicated task of staying with players in the key moments’

What does it take to become a good coach?

And how do they describe their players in the four pillars of tennis?

Emilio Sánchez, CEO of Academia Sanchez-Casal in Florida and Oscar Burrieza, coach of the Madrid Tennis Federation analyze these topics during an interview recorded at the $15,000 Men’s Futures at ASC

HOW TO PREVENT TENNIS INJURIES

The 2018 season has started with a somewhat disheartening array of injuries among the top players. Murray has not been able to play since sustaining a hip injury at Wimbledon. Djokovic has had continued problems with his elbow in Australia, after having already spent a number of months off the courts. Rafa Nadal was forced to retire from the Australian Open after battling muscular problems during a match against Cilic. And they aren’t the only ones. During 2017, Wawrinka, Nishikori and Raonic have also suffered from different injuries. A question to consider is, are injuries inevitable for professional tennis players?

LEARNING HOW TO EAT

The vast majority of people who have lost weight and maintained their new weight over time have not followed a particular diet; they have simply learned how to eat well. How did they do it? They have quite simply changed their eating habits.

ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO GIVE 100% EFFORT

Every athlete wants to achieve good results, but we have to be aware that good results don’t automatically happen because we spend hours and hours training on court, in fitness or in mental training. Inspiring young athletes to give their best effort is both the coach and the parents’ responsibility.

#20 Successful Habits Of Overcoming Adversity

The past months have been very hard. With the school year beginning shortly, appeared to be promising year. The kids arrived back to school excited about setting and accomplishing new goals, objectives and dreams. There was a healthy and renovated vibe here at ESIS and ASC.
However, things changed suddenly when one of the early traveling teams (competition groups) traveled to the Caribbean to compete in some tournaments and get some ITF points. Competing in these tournaments allows players to play during the rest of the year at the ITF tournaments, as well as receive excellent options of being considered by college coaches.

Game, Set, Fight=Cure

To a teacher, the children in his or her classroom are not just students; they are a part of their family. Whenever you hear a teacher telling stories about their day, the students are always referred to as “my kids.” That is what teaching will do to a person; it grows your heart bigger and bigger with every passing day. I have had Casper Fernandez in my classes here at ES International School for two years, and just as with any teenager, he has frustrated and exhausted me, but most important, he has made me proud to be his teacher. The word “cancer” has the ability to cut through the heart of any person. But when the diagnosis is for a teenager with so much ambition and potential, it cuts even deeper.

ANTIOXIDANTS: THE GREAT ALLIES OF YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

One of the great problems of sport is oxidative stress. Excessive body oxygenation through breathing accelerates the oxidation process, which generates free radicals. Free radicals can cause premature aging and many degenerative diseases. What can we do to renew our cells and keep ourselves healthy and young? To counteract oxidation, the best we can do is provide our body with natural dietary antioxidants.

#12 SUCCESSFUL HABIT FOR OVERCOMING ADVERSITY

Michelle Konkoly is all energy and determination. Last summer, the 24-year-old athlete saw her dreams fulfilled when she won 4 medals at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio and broke two Paralympic records in the S9 100m freestyle and the S9 50m freestyle.

Originally from Pennsylvania, at Georgetown Konkoly joined the university’s swimming team. Her life was changed dramatically, however, when in her freshman year she fell five stories out of her dorm window and was seriously injured. She fractured several ribs and a vertebra, damaged her spinal cord, and as a result, was left paralyzed from the waist down.

IMPROVE YOUR TENNIS LEVEL WITH SELF-TALK

Many times we see tennis players motivating themselves on court, with phrases like “Come on!” or “Got it!”. Or we see how they give instructions to themselves, like “Fast!”, or “Position”. Is this useful for players? Do they do this in an instinctive way, or do they learn how to do it? Normally, these kinds of techniques are part of their training and the mental work they do, which every day becomes more and more important in the professional tennis world.

DO YOU WORK WITH A SPORT PSYCHOLOGIST? YES, I DO.

Sports psychologists are not new to tennis. Ivan Lendl travelled with Alexis Alexis Castorri in the 1980s, and Martina Navratilova worked with one too. When somebody asks me if this role is key to a successful tennis team, my answer is always ‘no’. However, I would argue that working with a sports psychologist brings a lot of benefits, and can help tennis players, coaches, parents, even businessmen and women, to develop their game.
