Maria Garc�a-Planas, alumni S�nchez-Casal, the new Americas Region PR Marketing Manager for the ATP.
Maria Garcia-Planas will start working for the ATP as Manager, PR & Marketing, on January 23.
Maria, former S�nchez-Casal student-ahtlete and a graduate of LMU and a former Division 1 athlete, is bilingual in Spanish and English and has previously worked in marketing and sales.
In 2007 Mar�a won the design contest and invited to design the following year�s line for S�nchez-Casal staff.
She will be based in PVB and will cover all four Latin American events in February.

Emilio Sanchez receives Award of Excellence

Former player and Davis Cup captain Emilio Sanchez was honoured with the Davis Cup Award of Excellence on Saturday. The award was presented by ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti and former recipient Manolo Santana in an on-court ceremony before the start of play, after which Sanchez joined Spanish fans in the crowd to enjoy the weekend�s re-match of the 2008 final.

A member of one of Spain�s most prominent tennis families, Sanchez competed in Davis Cup for his nation 12 times between 1984 and 1996, compiling a 32�23 record. In 2005, he took on the role of captain, and in 2008, he led the Spanish team to the Davis Cup title in Mar del Plata. Sanchez was also part of the Spanish teams that won the Hopman Cup in 1990 and the World Team Cup in 1992.

�Emilio Sanchez was a great contributor to Davis Cup for nearly two decades, as a player, captain, and dedicated supporter of the event,� said Ricci Bitti. �In recognition of his achievements and in appreciation for his contributions to the sport and to Davis Cup, we are proud to present him with the Davis Cup Award of Excellence.�

Since 2001, the ITF and the Hall of Fame have presented the annual Davis Cup Award of Excellence to a person who represents the ideals and spirit of the Davis Cup competition. The award was developed to recognise the importance of Davis Cup by honoring individuals who best represent the ideals of the competition's founder, Dwight Davis.

In addition to being a great contributor to Spain�s Davis Cup efforts, Sanchez was one of the nation�s most celebrated players. In 1988, he won the men's doubles titles at both Roland Garros (with Andres Gomez) and the US Open (with Sergio Casal), and the same year partnered Casal to the men�s doubles silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. He won Roland Garros again with Casal in 1990.

Sanchez also won two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles, at 1987 Roland Garros with Pam Shriver and later in that year at the US Open with Martina Navratilova. During his career he captured a remarkable 50 doubles titles and was ranked world No. 1 in doubles. In singles he has 15 titles to his name and reached a world ranking of No. 7.

Spain wins Nations Cup Sanchez-Casal 2011

The team from Spain has proclaimed champion of the Nations Cup S�nchez-Casal 2011 after defeated Serbia in the final by 4-2.
Spain won for points: two in singles boys, one girl single and one more in boys doubles.
The players from Spain: Ferran Calvo, Pedro Dominguez, Maria Martinez, Rosario Ca�ero y Esteban Tapia.
The tournament category is boys and girls under-15 (players born in 1996 and later).
Meanwhile, Ukraine won the third position.
They are 8 teams invited. Each team is formed by 2 boys, 2 girls and 1 coach. Ukraine, Italy, Finland, Serbia, Portugal, Spain, UK, S�nchez-Casal.
Every confrontation consists in 7 points: 2 boys singles, 2 girls singles, 1 boys doubles, 1 girls doubles and 1 mixed doubles.

Emilio S�nchez Vicario receives USPTA Award International Master Professional

The USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) has recognized the impulse and dedication by Emilio S�nchez Vicario to tennis industry.

Italian trainees, from the European Social Fund, conclude their internship at Academia S�nchez-Casal

As part of job training sponsored by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the European Union's commitment to create better jobs, 16 interns from the Italian Liceo Classico Statale "F. Capece" have been trained over the last month in the Academia S�nchez-Casal in Barcelona.

The ESF, one of the European Union�s structural funds that promotes employment, has a specific project under the name "We invest in your future." This project aims to help EU citizens by giving them better skills and better job prospects.

The ESF program ended last Saturday, September 10, 2011. In addition to improving their level of Spanish, the 16 interns became familiar with various areas of the Academia S�nchez-Casal such as the reception, admissions office, administration, Pro-Shop, marketing and communication departments, sports science, technical area, the Restaurant, and the sports department.

"The trust put into the interns, in such a warm and caring environment, made it possible for them to take responsibility and value their work. While here, they have been exposed to different languages and cultures given that there are student-athletes from 41 different countries. They also have acquired experience with various management software," said the intern�s teaching mentor, Mar�a Estrella Altuzarza.

A workshop was given by Emilio Sanchez Vicario, who shared with the interns his business vision and how it is essential to create optimal performance in all areas. The interns also attended specific such as nutrition and event organizing.

The interns, from the southern Italian region of Puglia, experienced the daily life of the sports club, which included the start of the school year, the Sanchez-Casal Youth Cup Tournament, and a wheelchair tennis clinic by the Emilio Sanchez Vicario Foundation. In addition, they had the chance to know the city of Barcelona with various cultural excursions.

The beginning of 2011 heralds a new start to travelling in style with the Sanchez-Casal team.

The Academy is proud to introduce its brand-new fleet of Volkswagen vans as the Official Vehicle for transport for its teams on tour.

An improvement from the previous batch of vans, the new vehicles are incorporated with redefined features designed such as plusher, wider seats; stronger engine specifications, a comprehensive sound system, and a drop down screen player with USB, DVD and cable connection options.

All these aim to heighten the comfort, safety and performance of our players on tour.

SANCHEZ-CASAL ACADEMY: COMPROMISE WITH QUALITY

The S�nchez-Casal Academy, together with the Gastronomy and Restaurant services, is a member of the SICTED (�Sistema Integral the Calidad Tur�stica Espa�ola� � Spanish Integral System of Tourist Quality) after receiving certification, which underwrites the quality both in the facilities as in the services offered in the Club.
The SICTED is promoted by the Tourism Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Spanish Federation of Town Councils and Provinces; its main objective is to guarantee the quality in touristic destinations and the Academy is concerned with the compromise of offering a maximum quality to athletes who choose the spend their holidays at this touristic site in Barcelona.
This certification has special relevance because it was awarded to a High Performance Sports center, such as the S�nchez-Casal Academy, a place of international prestige where tennis players, students and visitors from all over the world are constantly visiting the facilities.
The sports facilities are located in Baix Llobregat, which offers a first level cultural and touristic heritage thanks to the proximity to the Gava, Casteldefells, and Sitges beaches; these are all privileged areas not only by their location but also by the good Mediterranean climate which, together with the sports residence, welcome the athletes during the season they spend at the S�nchez-Casal Academy.
